Gerald Fierst, actor, storyteller, author, and literacy educator, has worked in film, television and theater as well performing and recording in the US, Europe, and Asia as astoryteller. In 2022/23, as an actor, he appeared in the first two seasons of the HULU series Only Murders in the Building.
As a recording artist, he is the recipient of two Parents Choice Awards for his CD’s of world folktales.
As a playwright, he worked closely with the noted Holocaust historian Dr Yaffa Eliach and her award winning collection of oral histories Hasidic Takes of the Holocaust, adapting them into the musical play Dancing With Miracles.
As a storyteller, he has been a featured teller and a ghost story teller at the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough, TN, and a Storyteller in Residence at the International Storytelling Center. He is a recipient of the JustStories Fellowship for his work with Susan O'Hallaran and Arif Choudhury about Jewish, Muslim, and Christian identity in 21st Century America and has presented and performed at CAJE, NewCAJE, LIMMUD, and the National Havurah Conference.
As Artistic Director of the Jewish Storytelling Center at the 92nd Street Y, Fierst organized monthly meetings for the sharing of traditional and personal stories. As a board member and program presenter for the Funeral Consumers Association of Northern New Jersey, Fierst presents to senior communities leading discussions on end of life preparation. He is the author of The Heart of the Wedding, a non fiction book of wedding stories and ceremonies and Imagine the Moon, a STEAM book of poetry, science and folklore, and Bye, Bye, Big! A preschool picture book co-authored with Margaret Read MacDonald..
