Since 1982, we've been a home for people seeking a Jewish community that is inclusive, embodied, and alive. Our community is grounded in our commitment to justice, creativity, and spiritual depth. Membership at Nahalat Shalom isn't transactional, it's how we build and sustain a spiritual home together.
Membership at Nahalat Shalom is not contingent on your ability to pay a set amount, but on your wish to be part of this community.
Nahalat Shalom's annual operating budget is approximately $350,000. Divided across our roughly 150 member households, that comes to a sustaining share of about $2,300 per household per year or $200 a month. The sustaining share is the amount it costs, on average, to do what we do together: shabbat and holiday celebrations, rabbinic services and guidance, cultural events, administrative lifecycle support, Hebrew school and adult education classes, as well as staff salaries and care for our building and grounds.
If you're able to give at or above the sustaining share, your generosity helps make it possible for other households to give less, and it enables us to continue to thrive as an economically diverse community. If the sustaining share isn't within reach, please give what you're able, and know your membership is no less valued.
Nahalat Shalom is a 501c-3 Organization and will provide you with an annual contribution statements for your records. You can always contact our office if you would like an interim record of your contributions.
Membership Benefits
- A voice in our community, including a vote to approve our budget and elect members of our Va’ad
- Eligibility to serve on the Va’ad (Council) and other leadership opportunities
- Rabbinic support for life-cycle events, including baby namings, b mitzvah, weddings, end of life care, funerals, and shiva
- Opportunity to buy a plot at a reduced price for you or a family member in Nahalat Shalom’s section at La Puerta Burial Ground
- Annual reminder of loved one’s meldado or yahrzeit (anniversary of death)
- Two hour use of our facility at no cost per year, and discounted rental rates beyond that
