The discovery of an Israeli student’s PhD thesis on Palestinian books housed separately in Israel’s National Library led renowned filmmaker Benny Brunner to investigate a little known cultural dimension of the 1948 Nakba–the systematic appropriation of tens of thousands of books of Palestinian literature and scholarship from private libraries. Were the books looted? Were they catalogued and saved? Engaging interviews with the student, with Palestinian and Jewish scholars and a museum curator, reveal a range of perspectives on this controversial program.
