A Note from Rabbi Shefa Gold . . .
Dear friends at Nahalat Shalom,
I am thrilled to be able to join you as your rabbi during the Days of Awe in September. The High Holy Days are a potent time of reflection, connection and renewal. These days are the culmination of a profound journey that we get to take together. I look forward to getting to know you, to creating sacred space together, and to diving in to a process of transformation that is supported by community and Tradition.
In grateful anticipation,

About Rabbi Shefa Gold
Rabbi Shefa Gold is a leader in ALEPH: the Alliance for Jewish Renewal and received her ordination both from the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College and from Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi. She is the director of C-DEEP The Center for Devotional, Energy and Ecstatic Practice in Jemez Springs, New Mexico. Shefa composes and performs spiritual music, has produced ten albums, and her liturgies have been published in several new prayer-books. She teaches workshops and retreats on the theory and art of Chanting, Devotional Healing, Spiritual Community Building, Meditation, and trains Chant Leaders in Kol Zimra, a two year program for rabbis, cantors and lay leaders. She is a resource faculty for the Institute for Jewish Spirituality and a fellow for CLAL’s Rabbis without Borders. She was recently named “One of the 33 most Inspiring Rabbis in America,” by the Jewish Forward. Her new project is called SOULIFT, a one week immersion in spiritual practice designed to lift us into the Soul perspective. Shefa combines her grounding in Judaism with a background in Buddhist, Christian, Islamic, and Native American spiritual traditions to make her uniquely qualified as a spiritual bridge celebrating the shared path of devotion. She is the author of Torah Journeys: The Inner Path to the Promised Land, and In the Fever of Love: An Illumination of the Song of Songs published by Ben Yehuda Press, and The Magic of Hebrew Chant: Healing the Spirit, Transforming the Mind, Deepening Love published by Jewish Lights.

We welcome you, and Tzedakah too.
Help us open our doors to all; please take heed of generosity's call. Nahalat Shalom is a congregation that loves to get together to celebrate the holidays. We are blessed to have our own Community Klezmer Band and Alavados Holy Days Ensemble, as well as Rikud, our dance troupe, to enhance our festivities through music and dance. During High Holy Day services, our spiritual experience is enhanced by the music of Alavados, our in-house 7-9 piece ensemble of talented members of the congregation. For most holidays, we are at home in our own synagogue; for some observances we get together with other Albuquerque congregations to celebrate with the local Jewish community. Check our calendar for schedule or sign up to receive our e-newsletter. Children are welcome at all of our events; childcare is available during morning services.
*Nahalat Shalom is a pescaterian, kashrut facility: No meat, no peanuts (allergies); but kosher fish (having fins and scales) is permitted. We strive to take an environmentally friendly approach to food. If you bring a dish with multiple ingredients that aren't obvious, please bring a card with ingredients listed. Lactose free, gluten free, and vegan dishes are always appreciated.
