Nahalat Shalom's Library was started a few years ago when we found ourselves the grateful recipients of many donations of books. We started to process them, but were very limited in terms of space, bookshelves, and money. Then Rabbi Chava Carp came along and brought what for us was a true blessing. In memory of her mother, Myra Carp, who had died recently, Chava donated her mother’s extensive library, along with new beautiful library shelving; the Vaad approved expanding the Library to two rooms; new windows and a paint job are in the offing.
Our collection of over 1,000 books includes fiction on Jewish themes, books by Jewish authors, books on Jewish history and customs, holidays, and life cycle activities, books on Israel, Bible studies, children’s books, and more. All congregation members belong to the library!
We need more committee members to help with processing books (we’ll provide training), to plan programs such as book discussions and author appearances, and to develop a “wish list” of books suitable for donations on special occasions, for teachers and others. Call the Nahalat Shalom office if you can help or want more information.
