We are honored and kvelling that The New Mexico Philharmonic selected Nahalat Shalom's Der Freylekher Shabes to be part of its 2019 Music & Arts Festival The Art of Faith: Exploring the Intersection of Belief & Creativity. The Festival brings together a variety of cultural institutions and organizations to produce events which will spark dialogue and deepen our collective understanding. Der Freylekher Shabes is a joyous danced Shabbat service in a heimishe (homey), old-country Eastern European style. Led by Cantor/ music director Beth Cohen, Alavados holy days ensemble, and Rikud dancers, the service also includes prayers for lighting candles, Mishebeyrach, Kaddish Yatom, Kiddush and HaMotzee. At 7:20pm there's a potluck vegetarian dinner; at 7:55pm-Birkat HaMazon; from 8-9:15pm Rikud leads Jewish folk dances to Klezmer music by The Nahalat Shalom Community Klezmer Band.
