September 8 9:30am- 12:30pm Reconstructionist Minyan
Congregation
Nahalat Shalom is pleased to announce the formation of a Shabbat
morning Reconstructionist Minyan. Initially the service will be
held on a monthly basis. Reconstructionist Judaism is a
progressive, contemporary approach to Jewish life that
integrates a deep respect for traditional Judaism, with the
insights and ideas of contemporary social, intellectual and
spiritual life. Reconstructionism emphasizes the importance of
religious community in shaping individual patterns of
observance. The movement retains a warmly traditional, and fully
egalitarian, approach to Jewish religious practice.
The monthly
minyan will feature a full Shacharit and Torah service, and will
be led by Rabbi Deborah Brin, Rabbi Patty Haskell, Lia Rosen,
Stan Hordes, and others. For further information, please contact
Biata Rabinovich at Congregation Nahalat Shalom, 343-8227, or
Lia Rosen, 463-5822.

TORAH
STUDY
Torah
Study Schedule: Torah
Study meets on Fridays at 11:45 in
the Nahalat Shalom conference room.
We are now
beginning the Book of Proverbs, known as Mishlei in Hebrew. This
book of the Bible focuses on everyday wisdom. We read the text
looking for its literal meaning; each reader brings him- or
herself into the reading of the text. We try to understand its
difficulties and sift through commentary for guidance. Lay led
sessions are held each week at Nahalat Shalom. Open to all.
Please come join us.

Meditation and Spirituality
Teaching and Discussion
Next meeting: Saturday,
September 15,
3:30pm
– 5:00pm
The meditation
and spirituality group has decided to hold regular sits on the
third Saturday of each month starting in August. We wanted to
create a regular calendar so people could plan for the year. We
generally sit for 20 - 30 minutes and then hold discussions. If
meditation has started when you arrive, do come in quietly and
join us.
We are
continuing to read and discuss Marcia Prager's book, the Path of
Blessing. Next time, we will continue with the chapters, Ata and
Naming God, pg. 85-115. Please come prepared to share a short
phrase or paragraph that has meaning for you. If you can't read
the text in advance, feel free to come as we will read short
sections. This group will continue to evolve, so bring
suggestions for other readings or practice. Nina Wallerstein

SPECIAL
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Sunday, Sept 9, 7am: Courtyard
Landscaping Project
Amazing progress
was made in the last month in our courtyard! A wonderful group
of energetic, hard working and devoted people are making a
difference. Please come and support your community and be a part
of a great project. Help us grow and flourish.
Courtyard
Landscaping Project Update
Thanks to a
great group of hard working people we moved twenty six tons of
Sedona Red crusher fines two Sundays ago. The courtyard is
transforming and we're having a ball! It is so full filling to
work together efficiently and accomplish as much as we have. The
fun will continue, as the next phase is a walkway on the
outside of the
adobe wall, continuing into the handicap ramp. Our goal is to
complete the walkway by High Holidays, and to accomplish this
we've scheduled three workdays, as follows:
Sunday 9/9 7:00am - The fun and glory of moving and
smoothing the crusher fines. We're done! (Till the
next phase. . .)
Don't miss out
on the fun and camaraderie!
Exciting Library
News and Request for your Help!!!
Yes, we will
soon have made-to-order library shelves, thanks to Rabbi Chavah
Carp and her brother - and that means we will soon have a real
library. We will need some help very soon with packing all those
books into cartons; once the shelves are up, we'll need help in
processing and shelving all our books.
