Internationally renowned investigative journalist Greg Palast will talk about globalization, corporate cons and the theft of elections in the United States at Congregation Nahalat Shalom on March 30.
Palast, who wrote the book, “The Best Democracy Money Can Buy,” based on his investigations into the 2000 Presidential elections debacle in Florida, will also discuss the topics he is currently covering, including the follow-up work he has done in the revised, paperback edition of his book.
Despite being one of one of the world's top investigative reporters, American media have been unsupportive of Palast’s efforts to uncover the truth behind controversial issues like the 2000 Election Day scandal in Florida.
He had to go to England to get exposure for some of the most important U.S.-based stories. It was from there that his stories on how the 2000 Presidential elections were rigged, and the connection between the Bush family, the Saudis, and the 9-11 attack, were finally published.
Palast, along with fellow iconoclast Michael Moore, is known for using less than conventional means to bring his muck-racking journalism to the public.  One such means is the Internet, where on www.gregpalast.com one can read articles by Palast that have appeared in The Guardian, Harper's and on salon.com.
One of those articles published in The Guardian, an expose' of former President George Bush's connection with a possible massacre of gold miners in Tanzania, became a chilling case of media censorship that still ripples through the world and was a test of how free the Internet can be from censorship and political control under globalization/WTO policies.
Palast has appeared on Pacifica Radio’s in-depth news program hosted by Amy Goodman, “Democracy Now!” and numerous alternative media outlets. Ticket sales from Palast’s talk at Nahalat Shalom, 3606 Rio Grande NW, will benefit KUNM-FM radio, which airs “Democracy Now” Monday through Friday at 4 p.m.
Local supporters of alternative media and Albuquerque independent bookseller Bookworks are co-sponsoring the event which will begin with a reception and book signing at 6:30 p.m. Tickets for the reception are $50 each and include refreshments and a copy of the book. Tickets for the talk only, which begins at 7:30 p.m., are $10. Tickets are available at Bookworks and at the door the night of the event.
