Member establishes fund for Klezband
Staff Report
A new fund for the Nahalat Shalom Community Klezmer Band has been established in memory of member Helene Silverblatt's father, Salvin Silverblatt, who was a clarinetist. The fund also honors Helene Silverblatt’s son, Aaron Silverblatt-Buser, who became a Bar Mitzvah on June 22, 2002, and the upcoming Bar Mitzvah of her son, Elan Silverblatt-Buser. The fund has yet to be named, though one possible name is The Silverblatt-Buser Musical Heritage Fund, said a grateful Klezband Director Beth Cohen.
“It's very important that we acknowledge this awesome generosity and make it a fund that people can donate to in the future or now for Klezmerquerque,” Cohen said.
Helene Silverblatt also contributed $1,000 to Klezmerquerque, as well as donating her bosque guest house for the Klezmerquerque musicians to reside in during their stay.
Others that have contributed to Klezmerquerque 2003 include Nahalat Shalom, the Community Klezband, the Jewish Federation of Greater Albuquerque and anonymous donors.
