To The Editor...
Having been so involved, (e.g. Va’ad VP, lead Shachrit services), I feel that I especially appreciate the work/labor of love you all have been doing. These days, I know so little of what goes on and rely on what I read in Desert Sage or what I’m told (my social contact is very limited). I recently heard, however, that the administrator position held by Carol Boss was terminated.
So when I read our usually small July Sage, I felt disturbed that no word was written to inform (me as) member/reader of this decision by the Va’ad. Relative to the paper’s size, there was however, a significant amount of print taken up to introduce our new interim executive director, and a few words about changing roles in the Va’ad Report.
As a member/reader, I felt inappropriately informed. It felt very out of balance, as if a huge piece of news was deliberately held back. If I had not heard (in a personal conversation), I would know nothing of Carol’s termination.
So disturbing was the disparity of praise for the new, without any acknowledgement and appreciation for what has been (accomplished by Carol as administrator) at the same time, that I had to speak out here.
Carol, and the position she filled so well, is a part of Nahalat Shalom. Where is our integrity? (respect for the whole).
I thank and appreciate each one of you for all the work you’ve done and continue to do. And thank you, Carol, for all your wonderful, valuable contributions to Nahalat Shalom as our administrator.
Shalom,
Stephanie Shefia Cohen
